買いです。
４０年代のミシシッピー・ブルースのオムニバス、というよりビッグ・ジョー・ウィリアムスの戦前録音に、ロバート・ペットウェイとトミー・マクレナンの全曲集その他を併せた４枚組です。ｊｓｐの箱ものの定番のリマスターで、これはこれで一長一短がありますが、この４枚組に関しては吉と出ているのではないでしょうか。もともとの音質がよいこともありますが、カーステレオで普通に聴けます。もっとリマスターの技術が進歩して２０年代、３０年代のミシシッピー・ブルースもこの音質で聞けたら、ドキュメント・レーベルすべて買い直してもいいです（すこし誇張してます）。でも、ミシシッピー・ブルースも４０年代になると、従来の泥臭さを残しつつも、５０年代、６０年代の白人が消化再構成して作り上げたブルース・ロックに通ずる要素も内包していて、過渡的といえば過渡的ですが、捨て難い魅力があります。それがまた、僕が４０年代以降のアコースティックなカントリー・ブルースにそれほど入れ込めない理由かもしれませんが。
持ってても買い
持ってても買いです。「ＲＣＡブルースの古典」でトミー・マクレナンが気になってたひとも「ヒストリー・オブ・ロックン・ロール」の「キャットフィッシュ・ブルース」の音質に目からウロコが落ちたひとも買って損はしないでしょう。このコンピレーションに20,30年代にフォームのできあがったミシシッピー・ブルースが50年代にかたちをかえてシカゴで開花する直前の姿を見るのもひとつの聞き方だとも思います。しかし、40年代の録音を比較的新しいなどと思っているのは僕だけでしょうか。
